Lorraine Lamonds Stained Glass Installation

We had the privilege of making a podcast of glasgow artist Lorraine Lamond's recent installation of her Stained Glass windows in Christ the King Church, Kingspark, Glasgow.
This is the first window in a series of three with the other two still in creation. Lorraine is one of Scotlands leading Stained Glass Artists.
The work was installed by David and Scott from Scottish Glass Studio.

Here is a video documentation of the Mark Campbell & Craig Peacock show at Sir William Burrell's former family home. We hope it will also highlight the state of the House has been left to fall into over the years by the council.
Although the current owner is working with historic scotland they have it on the market and it should be bought back by the council, restored and made into a West End Burrell.

Thanks again to all who came to the show which was very busy and a well recieved show.
We were only disappointed that no-one officially from the GI came along to see the show and think they missed a good PR opportunity as Sir William Burrell donated more than two hundred works for the original Glasgow International Exhibition in 1903. And we were the first artists to have work hung in Burrells house since the great man himself lived there. Click on the Photos link at the side to see all the photos from the House.
It's also a scandal that Burrell's House has been left by various councils over the years to fall into such disrepair and then to be sold off, although I presume he left it to the People of Glasgow on his death. The house is now in private ownership and whilst working with Historic Scotland the present owner has the House up for sale. The house should be bought back by the council and with various restoration agencies be restored to its original state and made into a West End Burrell as less than a quarter of his work is ever on display in Pollok Park. So come on Glasgow show a little initiative and take this treasure back Burrell gave his entire collection plus money to build the Burrell Collection yet the city fathers have neither the will or the wit to show the same courtesy.

An Exhibition of new work by

MARK CAMPBELL

Mark Campbell's work takes on the notion of the nurture of children and the images and propogandic messages they are subjected to and indoctrinated with from religions and the media.

With 'Jelevision' he uses the idea of a greenhouse, where seeds are normally germinated by the light, to express this with his images etched and fired onto the glass. The symbolic metaphors are throughout the work i.e he uses the image of a rabbit taken from a Hamas Childrens Television programme called 'Pioneers of Tomorrow’ where adults dressed as cartoon animals are the stars and where each one is eventually killed by the israelis with the young children praying for their demise, and also with the bible reference on the gun sight (US

troops had been fighting in afghanistan and Iraq using guns with scripture quoted references on their scopes) bringing the idea of modern day crusaders.

The neon text work simply speaks for its self.

CRAIG PEACOCK

Art and Divinity are thoughtful abstractions that deal with the aesthetic

and esoteric. They are both relative to our perceptions, feelings and needs. One seeks the sublime the other purpose. In truth they have never been apart, each influencing the evolution of concepts, ideas and notions of our present time and place.

The work for ‘a god given light’ was cumulative of thought, time and process. They are imaginations, notations, where lines and marks become formal objects. Representations of sky and sea, one tumultuous the other calm, subjective, emotive, where light begins to prevail, in hope and its own radiant glory.

'A God given Light'

Site specific work based on the theme of light created by artists
Mark Campbell & Craig Peacock.

Mark Campbell has made a greenhouse out of stained glass and neon text connected with modern religious ideoligies and the visual media children grow up with and the God given right each believes they have.
Craig Peacock deals in the visceral perception of place, where personal emotive thought is contextualised through drawing and paint. His work seeks a sense of the spiritual, without a premise to any specific religion.

The exhibition is installed in Burrell House, the former shipping magnate and art collector William Burrell's family residence.

The WhiteHouse is no longer operating from the Washington premises due to lack of support and short sightedness from the management of the building and will be putting on shows in the New Year, so we will let you know when and where in the near future.

The White House are delighted to be hosting young French artist Sebastien Marciak's work, which comprises large wall constructed prints with video and floor installation pieces.

Here he describes a little of the work:

'Taking inspiration from the violence and noise of the «crash tests», Individuals raises a paradox:

Immersing the spectators in a dark but silent and contemplative atmosphere by confronting them

with a series of works that play on physical impact.

The reference to Anthropomorphic Test Devices (known as crash test dummies) serves as a pretext

to emphasize the individual aspect of the human body and to show its fragile condition.

Although industrially produced, they reveal here their uniqueness.

I would like to thank Mark Campbell from the White House Glasgow
for hosting the show and also the Market Gallery and the Glasgow Print Studio for their great help.'

CS features a selection of emerging artists working in a variety of disciplines and aims to bring together work that references or finds its inspiration from the structures, materials and forms of our man-made surroundings. Featuring both the work of artists whose practice naturally fits this theme, as well as those who have created new works specifically for the show. The exhibition is a celebration of architecture, engineering, geometry and construction. The 13 artists have responded the show title using sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, performance, photography and video.

The exhibition has been organised and selected by artist Ric Warren and features the work of 13 emerging artists. With the exception of Joel Dever (University of the Arts London), all artists have at some point spent time studying at The Glasgow School of Art and many now hold studios at Clydebrae Studios in Govan. The show is an attempt to bring together different generations of GSA's recent output, giving graduates with various levels of experience the opportunity to exhibit together and share skills / knowledge. CONSTRUCTS has been put together with a very limited budget with no outside / public funding. The exhibition relies on the hard work and commitment of all involved and particular thanks goes to The White House for hosting the show.

We are delighted to be opening our latest creation by artist Natalie Lambert.

Natalie has been in residence for the last 3 weeks and we are delighted to be opening the WhiteHouse to let the public see what marvelous, thought provoking, work natalie has created specifically in the space.

Here Natalie has has constructed a space of diminishing, in height, strings horizontaly fastened across the space only broken by the voided space left by the vertical columns in the centre of the White House. This leaves the viewer a little perturbed by the shifting volume of the space and the rising lines of string above them and infront.

We would like to thank Natalie for a wonderful installation and although the work was down all too soon we hope she got as much from the project as we got from her.

We were delighted to have Jamie and Lewis create and show at the White house and will publish a short description of the artists experience at the white house, here is Jamie's:

I came into the residency with a pretty good knowledge of the Whitehouse Gallery, and knowing that primarily, I wanted to respond to this massive space. There aren't really any other gallery spaces in Glasgow like it, at least not that are accessible to emerging artists anyway. With this in mind, the residency represented an opportunity to explore and develop my work on a much larger scale. Lewis Holleran came on board later on into the residency after Louise Brunjes pulled out, we had this really nice discussion over a few Magners pear ciders about each of our practices and the space itself. From this point on the show really turned into more of a collaborative work. The Whitehouse is an intimidating space to get you head round, for starters its not a traditional gallery in the sense that the walls aren't all whiter than white and there's service pipes everywhere. You have to deal with that as an artist, painting the space was out of the question as we were working with no funding what so ever. With a lot of equipment in the space it just looked like a factory so the obvious answer was to cut back on our work and be super minimal in how we dealt with the show. I had originally planned 3 works for the space and cut this back to just the one based around one of the buildings support columns. This left the rest of the space for Lewis to deal with, installing 2 monitors facing each other on some beat up old plinths. That was it, my work and Lewis's 2 monitors playing these pinging , banging and somewhat disorientating flourescent strip videos facing each other in a western style stand-off, that for me, made an awesome tension in the space. I had been working with balanced objects in the degree show and really wanted to explore this further, but this time even more precarious. I used seven, eight foot strip lights swinging way back on their power cord, pulling down on the buildings column as you can see from the images. I don't think there are many devices that are as good at playing with an environment as light is. The strip lights are all precarious, ready to fall, so they have inherant potential and danger and instability. As an artist, thats what interests me about this work in particular, but more than that, the light is focussed on the ceiling area of the gallery space and casts the floor into shadow, offering up the buildings underbelly for exploration. I like this a lot. Using lights also allows the viewer to participate in the work by walking through the work they interfear with the light and shadow and become players in the interpretation of the work.

A collaborative site- spesific installation and live performance based on a four week residency at The White House. The work finds its source in several years of searching for a meeting point between Moray Hillary's painterly practice and Agnes Nedregards performance-based work. The result of this process comes together in a response to the particular rugged nature of The White House.

The White House are delighted to be the official Arts venue for the launch of Scotland's newest festival.
Hinterland is an arts and music festival based in Glasgow that makes its debut in 2009. Running over two days - April 30th and May 1st - Hinterland aims to showcase some of Scotland's finest artistic and musical talent, from unknown names to established acts.
The exhibition displays a wonderful variety of work from installation pieces to traditional stone carving.

Our forthcoming show which is part of the Glasgow International Festival for Visual Art will be taking place in shipping magnate, Glasgows greatest art collector, Sir William Burrell's old family residence @ 8 Great Western Terrace, Great Western Road.
If coming from the city centre you can take the Underground Inner Circle line to Hillhead then proceed north up Byres road before turning left @ Great Western Road. Great Western Terrace is the Alexander (Greek) Thomson designed terrace on the left after the first set of traffic Lights.
